America's most visited national park is right at Gatlinburg's doorstep. Over 800 miles of trails wind through ancient forests, past waterfalls, and up to panoramic ridgeline views. The park entrance at Sugarlands is just a 5-minute drive from downtown.
Key highlights accessible from the Strip include Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, Grotto Falls, Rainbow Falls, and the Sugarlands Visitor Center. The Gatlinburg Trail offers an easy, flat connection between downtown and the park.
Free and paid parking lots throughout downtown. In peak season (June through October), park once and explore on foot. The city garage at traffic light #5 is your best bet.
Gatlinburg is about 45 minutes from Knoxville via I-40 and US-441. GPS works well. Expect heavier traffic on weekends and holidays along the Parkway.
Weekday mornings are the least crowded. Most restaurants don't take reservations, so arrive early. A free trolley runs the full length of the Strip and into the Arts & Crafts Community.
