Local Knowledge

Things Most Visitors Don't Know

How to get the most out of a canopy tour in the Smokies.

schedule
Book the First Tour of the Day
Morning tours have cooler air, better visibility, and guides who are fresh. Afternoon tours in summer can be hot on the platforms between lines.
groups
Group Discounts Are Common
Most operators offer 10 to 20% off for groups of 8 or more. Call directly -- online booking systems often do not reflect the group rate.

CLIMB vs. Wahoo for Families
CLIMB Works is premium -- faster, higher, longer. Wahoo is purpose-built for families with younger kids and lower weight limits. Both are excellent; match to your group.
phone_android
Leave Valuables in the Car
Phones, sunglasses, and hats can and do fall off on fast lines. Most operators have phone pouches available. Bring a wrist leash or use a chest harness pocket.
wb_sunny
Fall Color Season Is Spectacular
Peak leaf color is usually mid-to-late October. A zipline tour during fall color is one of the best experiences in the Smokies -- book at least 2 weeks in advance for October weekends.

Weight Limits Are Enforced
Every operator weighs participants. If someone in your group is near the limit, call ahead. This avoids an awkward moment on the day.
