Things Most Visitors Don't Know
How to experience the Smokies music scene beyond the dinner shows.

Free Is Actually the Best
Ole Smoky's daily pickers are legitimately talented bluegrass musicians -- not background noise. Sit on the patio with a jar of moonshine and watch the Parkway go by. This is the authentic Smokies music experience.

Dollywood Morning Shows
Dollywood's first shows of the day (usually 11 AM or noon) have the smallest audiences. If you are going for the music specifically, those early shows have an intimate feel the evening crowds do not.
groups
Puckett's for Groups
Puckett's dinner shows work well for large groups because dinner and entertainment are combined. Book a long table and the evening runs itself. The musicians rotate and the food quality is consistently high.
nights
Weekend Concerts at The Island
The Island hosts free outdoor concerts on weekend evenings in summer. Check their event schedule. They bring in regional acts and the waterfront setting is a good backdrop.
place
Townsend Has a Quieter Scene
The Townsend Visitor Center area hosts free summer concerts and the area has several bluegrass venues. If you want to experience music without the Pigeon Forge commercial strip, Townsend is the answer.
schedule
Book Opry and Puckett's Early
Both the Smoky Mountain Opry and Puckett's dinner shows can book out 2 to 3 weeks ahead on summer Saturdays. If dinner-music is the plan, book before you arrive.
