Local Knowledge

Things Most Visitors Don't Know

Local tips that change how a Dollywood day goes.

schedule
The Single Rider Strategy
Lightning Rod, Wild Eagle, and Tennessee Tornado have single-rider options that can cut wait times from 60 minutes to under 10. Split your group and meet at the exit.
restaurant
Eat at Aunt Granny's at Opening
Aunt Granny's buffet is legitimately one of the best meal experiences in the region -- pinto beans, cornbread, pulled pork, cobblers. Go the moment it opens to avoid a 45-minute wait by noon.
wb_sunny
Best Months Are September and October
Harvest Festival in September and October is the best time of year for Dollywood. Pumpkins, music, incredible fall color on the hillside behind the park, and shorter crowds than summer.

Child Swap Is Available
If you have little ones who cannot ride a coaster, ask any ride attendant about Child Swap. One adult rides while the other waits with the child, then they switch without rejoining the line.
music_note
The Shows Are Genuinely Good
Most visitors focus on rides but miss the live entertainment. The Showstreet Palace and Pines Theater have multiple daily shows -- check the schedule at park entry and block out at least one.
star
Festival of Nations in Spring
The International Festival (April-May) features performers from around the world and some of the best people-watching in the park. Less crowded than summer and genuinely unique.
